Green Gold Label (GGL)
The Green Gold Label (GGL) is an international certification program for sustainable biomass that was founded in 2002 and is owned by the Green Gold Label Foundation. GGL was one of the earliest biomass certification schemes.
GGL certification covers the complete supply chain from production, processing, transportation to end use for bioenergy and bio-based applications. The scope includes wood biomass, agricultural residues and wood waste, as well as bioliquids.
Green Gold Label primaliry focuses on two market segments:
– Biomass for the production of biobased chemicals and other products, and
– Biomass for electricity and heat production.
Specific standards are applicable depending on the exact nature your business, such as:
- Chain of custody
- Forest management sources
- Agricultural sources
- Generators/utilities (the energy producers)
Green Gold Label certification is done by accredited, independent third party inspection bodies. It is exactly this independent certification that gives Green Gold Label its credibility. Auditing takes place on a yearly basis. The Certification Register is an actual account of the GGL certificates issued.
